Natural twines and cords for gardening, gift wrapping and craft projects, hand-wound by Tom at Lenton Ropemakers in Nottingham. Made using traditional and reclaimed natural fibres, they offer an alternative to plastic string and cord.
Lenton Ropemakers has been part of Nottingham for nearly 100 years. Now run by Tom, who comes from a Shropshire cordage family, the business gives useful materials a new lease of life, including reclaimed cotton, linen, flax and jute.
The longer cords are wound onto sturdy wooden bobbins rescued from the former Axminster Carpets and Coates factories. Full of character, these bobbins are worth keeping and reusing once the cord is finished.
Choose from 10-metre hanks of cotton or thin and thick jute; colourful linen wrapping cord (8 plait square braid) on Coates bobbins, with 100 metres per bobbin; or linen-and-cotton crafting cord on Axminster bobbins, approximately 4mm thick and around 50 metres long, with a linen outer and cotton core.
Use them to tie up plants, finish a wrapped gift or bring a natural texture to your next craft project. Materials and colours can vary as Tom works with the supplies available. Please message us if you’d like help choosing.
