Join us for Weaving with Waste Workshop to create a Silk Purse – 21st of April 2024!

During a Weave a Silk Purse workshop, Sarah Cooke, an experienced weaving tutor, teaches you how to weave with colourful reclaimed silk materials. And then you’ll fashion the newly created fabric  to construct a purse. You can choose the size and colours of your item, and make it up in a variety of ways, usually with a silk lining. Previous uses for the ‘purse’ have included a mobile phone pouch, a make-up bag, or even to hold money!

About the Weaving with Waste workshop to make a Silk Purse

  • Sunday 21st of April 2024

In this 6 hour workshop, you get to learn how to warp up a simple frame loom and how to weave using reclaimed sari silk and recycle other silk materials. Sarah will show you how to incorporate all sorts of colourful reclaimed silks to create a fabric, then use hand stitching techniques to construct your item.

A colourful weaving makes the perfect personalised gift for someone special.

You will learn how to weave on a simple frame loom, pick-up stick and shuttle, (which you can buy at the end of the day, if you want). And this skill can be transferred to weaving lots of waste materials such as unwanted yarns, electric cables, plastic packaging, baler twine, strips of old fabric from unwanted clothing.

All materials will be provided, but you can bring your own silks, if you wish.

Please note that there is a £5 material charge directly to Sarah on the day.

At the end of the session you will have created your own bespoke silk purse. Moreover, there is the option of buying the loom, pick-up stick and shuttle for £18.

Plus, you’ll get 10% off any purchases at Shop Zero on the day of the workshop.

You can find out more about Sarah and see examples of her work on the Facebook page “Weaving with Waste” and her website www.sarahcooke.co
